About Us

WhataFood began with a simple idea: bring the vibrant flavors of Brazilian street food to Vancouver.

Before we ever had walls, windows, or a storefront, we had a tent, a fryer, and a dream. In 2017, we started serving freshly made pastéis—Brazil’s beloved crispy, golden pastries—at local markets and festivals across Metro Vancouver. The response was immediate. People lined up, asked questions, came back with friends, and wanted more.

In 2018, our brand officially took shape. What started as a small stand quickly grew into a community favorite, celebrated for authenticity, warmth, and the joy of discovering Brazil through food.

Our Story

In 2020, we opened our first physical location inside the New Westminster SkyTrain Station, marking a new chapter for WhataFood. This allowed us to share pastéis fresh out of the fryer with commuters, families, and Brazilian ex-pats who finally felt a taste of home.

Since then, we’ve expanded, experimented, and introduced new ideas—like our bite-sized Whatabites, dessert pastéis, and even an all-you-can-eat concept celebrating Brazilian snacks and drinks.

Our journey has taken us from fairs to storefronts and from curious first-timers to loyal fans who visit weekly. Through every milestone, our philosophy remains the same: authentic flavor, warm hospitality, and the energy of Brazilian street food culture.

Our Mission

We exist to share authentic Brazilian street food with the world.
To create a place that’s fun, fast, friendly, and full of flavor.
To merge tradition with creativity.
And to bring a piece of Brazil to anyone who takes their first bite of a pastel and thinks:
“Wow… what IS this?”
(That’s usually followed by: “Can I get another one?”)
